From the cover:

To be honest, I don’t really have to much of value to say about this book.

It’s been a long time since I read the original – Le Petit Prince – as part of a high school French course, but the general style of the book seems to have remained intact in this adaptation. Obviously, not all of the story has remained, since this is a rather short graphic novel. Instead, this adaptation seems to have kept the feeling of the original Saint-Exupéry text, even while turning it into a graphic format. I can see The Little Prince Graphic Novel as being useful to get children and teenagers into the story if they wouldn’t be interested in the original text, and it would definitely be a good introduction to the ideas and the flow. Sometimes, I think that this attempt to stay true to the flow and style of Le Petit Prince felt a little strained and awkward, but this was rare. Mostly, The Little Prince Graphic Novel lent itself to a vague re-imagining of the classic that so many people have come to know so well, and it did so with style and grace.

Pick this up if you get a chance when it comes out, but I wouldn’t rush it unless you’re already a devout fan of the Saint-Exupéry original. I’d like to hear what you all think about it, since I don’t seem to be able to say much of import!

  1. I think this format for the book sounds really interesting, and though it’s been a long time since I have read the original, I’d be really interested in getting a copy of this book.
