The Rehearsal is plugged as being an exposition of the invisible and changing boundaries between private and public life as the reader watches the two intersect and navigate around each other.

In actuality, though, I found The Rehearsal to be downright boring and pretentious.

I planned to read this book during the 24 Hour Read-A-Thon, but never got to it. Normally, I wouldn’t have chosen it even as a YA book to read, but it seemed simple and short and I thought that it was a good pick for late-night reading.

Sentences tells the story of Percy Carey (aka M.F. Grimm) from his perspective, as he lives in the world of American hip-hop and street crews. It’s a really good look into the mentality behind the people who get involved in that kind of lifestyle, and why they make the choices that they do.
