Sunday Salon: It’s finally getting to be summer!

July 8, 2012

So … it’s been a while since I’ve done one of these! I’ve decided that it’s high time that I did, largely because there’s been so much going on.

For starters, my first year of teaching in the UAE is almost over! July 12th is our last day of work, though we’ve already been done with actual teaching and students for a few weeks now, and exams ended a week or so ago. I’m going to be coming back next near to finish out my 2-year contract in Abu Dhabi, but then I’ll be moving on.

And here’s the interesting part: I’m only going to be “moving on” about an hour away, to Dubai! I don’t know where exactly yet, but I’ll be starting my job search in the fall to find somewhere, probably a private school, to move to in the following school year. And the (primary) reason for this geographic shift?

Zaid and I will be getting married next summer! We went on a quick weekend getaway to Petra (Jordan) at the end of May, and came back engaged. More details to come later, but let’s just say that we’re very happy to have finally taken that step.

As for this summer, a few days after school gets out, I’m going to be going on a grand adventure: 44 days travelling through 11 European countries! I’m going to be going with whatever I can take as carry-on luggage on an airplane, so probably close to what most people call “backpacking”. So, if you’re going to be in (or near) Greece, Italy, Serbia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Hungary, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, France, or England this summer … let me know if you want to try to meet up, and we’ll see if our schedules happen to align!

I’ll definitely still be blogging – on my brand, spanking new iPad – while I’m away, including the 3rd year of my Ramadan Reading feature.

What have you all been up to? Any interesting summer plans?
