Sunday Salon: Four Things About Me

April 24, 2011

As this post goes live, I’m heading out of the city to go visit with my family for Easter.

Check out the beautiful eggs that my roommate and I coloured!

I’m not sure how long I’ll be away from home, though I’ll be back sometime today. In the meantime … here’s your chance to learn more about me! Earlier this week, I was tagged by Helen in a mini-meme that I actually find kind of interesting. Here goes:

Four jobs I’ve had in my life:

  1. Front window staff (and occasionally kitchen back staff) at McDonalds
  2. Skating coach (learn to skate, figure skating, and hockey skills)
  3. Data entry clerk at a conference organizing company
  4. Administrative assistant in a department called RPO (Recruitment Process Outsourcing), in a tech recruitment company that has changed names at least twice since I worked there

Four books I would read over and over: (I’m not much of a re-reader, but I’ll take a shot at this.)

  1. The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood
  2. In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan
  3. Watchmen by Alan Moore
  4. In the Skin of a Lion by Michael Ondaatje

Four places I have lived: (Sadly, not anywhere outside of a 100-km radius, so I’m going to be more specific about it … )

  1. My parents’ place in small-town Bradford, Ontario
  2. 89 Chestnut Residence in downtown Toronto
  3. McLean House, part of Campus Coop (very briefly)
  4. Hazelburn Coop, where I’ve lived for the past 5 years

Four books I would recommend: (Right now, anyways. This changes rather often.)

  1. The Help by Kathryn Stockett
  2. We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver
  3. The Shepherd’s Granddaughter by Ann Laurel Carter
  4. Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi

Four places I have been:

  1. Columbia (but I was too young to remember it now)
  2. Jamaica (but, again, too young to remember it)
  3. Dominican Republic
  4. Mexico

Four of my favorite foods:

  1. Pizza
  2. Vanilla Yogurt
  3. Poutine
  4. Thai Islamic Noodle from Salad King

Four of my favorite drinks:

  1. Diet Coke
  2. Sprite Zero
  3. Crystal Light (various kinds, but particularly the lemonade flavours)
  4. Tea (of all varieties … mmm … tea …)

Four places I would rather be right now:

  1. On the beach
  2. On a softball diamond
  3. On a skating rink
  4. In my comfy bed

Four things that are very special in my life:

  1. Reading
  2. Teaching
  3. Learning
  4. Healthy living

Four bloggers I hope will do this meme: (though it’s okay if you don’t! I just didn’t want to delete the question …)

  1. Amy of Amy Reads
  2. Iris of Iris on Books
  3. Lisa of the little reader
  4. Jill of Fizzy Thoughts

I’m a tea drinker, too! There’s something so comforting about a cup of tea.

I’ve posted my answers to the meme over at my blog. I hope you’ll check it out!

Interesting meme, I enjoyed reading your answers! I may do this myself we shall see 🙂 And as I see you are heading out to visit family I won’t text asking if you want to do coffee later today!! (I fly out late today.) Have a great Easter!

I like this meme, so thank you for doing it! I think everyone should have to work at McDonalds or some other fast food restaurant. I learned never to eat fast food, how to work quickly and efficiently, how to clean, and how to deal with the public… all good habits.

I am excited that you live in cooperative housing, that’s awesome. I lived in a coop for a couple years and really enjoyed the experience

There are definitely lots of skills that I learned while working there that have served me well! (Plus, it helps with credibility with at-risk students to have worked a crappy job … and to have funny stories to tell about it.)

These are so much fun to read. I found looking at the links about the coops you’ve lived in very interesting.

Bummer about being too young to remember some of your trips. I think you need a do-over!

And I did the meme a few days ago…I feel so efficient. 😀

I do, indeed, need some do-overs!
