Musing Monday: Used Books

Musing Mondays is a weekly meme hosted by Just One More Page.

Today’s Musing Mondays post is about used books. Do you frequent second hand book stores? Have you ever brought a book home only to find something interesting within its pages?

I don’t usually frequent used bookstores, largely because I tend to want to read books that are more recent or that are on subjects that are hard to find in used bookstores. I’ve also had a couple experiences where I got copies of books from used bookstores that weren’t in very good condition, and I regretted buying them instead of a new copy.

On the other hand, there are certain reasons for me to specifically go into used bookstores. I’ve found quite a few older editions of De Sade books by using old bookstores. I also really like the atmosphere and the expertise in most used bookstores, so when I’m just in the mood to peruse and look for something unexpected or unplanned, used bookstores are a fantastic choice.

I’ve never really brought anything home from a used bookstore with anything that interesting in it. Maybe a strange bookmark or two, but I don’t really remember anything that sticks out.

  1. I’ve not found many interesting things inside used books but once in a while there’s a surprise. I’m a dedicated haunter of used book stores, mostly because I’m cheap. 🙂

  2. I love a good book sale and while I too love to get a hold of the new ones – I absolutely love getting my hands on a great condition “recent” release book for 50 cents! Love a good sale 🙂
