From the cover:

Marr revisits favorite fan characters such as faeries Niall and Irial, and introduces fascinating new beings, including a vampire, a pair of selchie brothers, and a goblin. The strange creatures can appear anywhere, coming from the sea, from the woods, from inside storms; they may come seeking to bring destruction or to find a passionate encounter…

Lush, seductive, and chilling, the stories in Melissa Marr’s Faery Tales & Nightmares blend fairy tales and folklore, horror and fantasy, and allow us to revel in the unseen magic that infuses the world as we know it.

(This is a book of short stories, including many set in the world of the Wicked Lovely series.)

I stumbled on this book in my public library last summer, and decided that I needed to read it immediately. I loved the Wicked Lovely books, and any chance to read more of Marr’s writing was a welcome one.

Once I started reading, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Marr goes back and revisits some of characters from the series that I really loved. It was nice to see another side to their characters, almost like seeing behind-the-scenes of the books I had already read.

Marr does a great job writing short stories. They don’t have the same kind of emotional weight that her long-form stories do, but I still rather enjoyed them. She’s great at pacing things out and leaving just enough mystery for the reader. Definitely pick up Faery Tales & Nightmares, though I recommend that you read the Wicked Lovely series before you do so.
