Bloggiesta begins now and runs through Sunday night… wherever you are. We don’t have specific starting and ending times…. just Friday March 30 through Sunday April 1… wherever and whenever you are in the world!
This is a blogging party led by our fearless mascot PEDRO (Plan. Edit. Develop. Review. Organize.) and created several years ago by Natasha from Maw Books Blog (who is enjoying a brand new baby girl at her house!) The idea behind Bloggiesta is to keep Pedro happy by spending these next three days working on perfecting your blog and connecting with other bloggers doing the same thing.
This Bloggiesta, I’m in the middle of a vacation to Egypt with Amy. It’s unlikely that I’ll get everything on my list done, since I won’t be spending all that much time online … but I’ll try to get some of it going, and maybe finish up on the rest once I’m back home from vacation.
Goals for this Bloggiesta:
- Design business cards
- Map out possible discussion/non-review posts / work on some series / rainy day posts (bubbl.us?)
- Create a vlog
- Sign up on this FeedCluster list
- Figure out my blogging goals for this year
Update social network profiles
- Work on blogger contact list
- Update blog roll
- Put out invitations for re-starting Reading Roots series
- Follow up on previous invitations for Reading Roots series
Set up draft posts for upcoming reviews
- Clean out starred items in Google reader
- Re-organize folder system in Google reader
- Clean up blog subscriptions
- Carry over my reviews to my LibraryThing account
Re-vamp my policy and contact pages Clean up tags and categories Clean up uncategorized posts Update my about page
11:53am – Heading out with Amy to hang out in Al Azhar Park and read a book! Never too early to procrastinate.
12:09pm – Hold that thought. Waiting for Friday prayers to end so that we can get a taxi over to the park more easily.
12:15pm – Remix. We did indeed get a driver right away, so we headed out moments later to the park. Where we spent the entire afternoon mostly reading.
6:15pm – Back at the hotel, re-grouping before heading out for dinner.
6:32pm – Did the What’s a Rafflecopter? mini-challenge. Must say that I love the layout and will probably use it for my next (and long-overdue) giveaway!
6:35pm – Headed out for Gezira Island to have dinner in the Cairo Tower!
10:20pm – Finally back from dinner, and going to try to do something before I go to sleep.
10:40pm – Did the Plugins for WordPress Sites mini-challenge.
10:58pm – Did the Sidebar mini-challenge. Got rid of the Recommended Reading widget, a seemingly broken GFC section, and moved the “I’m Listed On” section to my About page.
11:06pm – Updated my About page to reflect change in my location and teaching experience.
11:19pm – Pseudo-did the Twitter mini-challenge. Updated my Twitter profile to reflect change in my location. Also set up my Twitter to post directly to the wall of my Facebook page. Oh, and updated my Facebook page while I was at it (including claiming a username for it!).
11:44pm – Updated my reviews by author list. Started a few posts for upcoming reviews. More to do on these later.
11:52pm – Updated my Policies page to make my current review copy policy more clearly visible (ie right at the fricking top). Also added that part to my Contact page to be clear. Seems that I’ve been getting an awful lot of review requests lately from people who don’t seem to bother reading this.
12:03pm – Alright, fine. I’ll sleep. Have a super-early wakeup in the morning to spend the day in Alexandria. I’ll try to get some reading done in the car on the way there and back, and do some blogging-specific things in the evening!
6:30pm – Got back from spending the day in Alexandria.
8:00pm – Finished setting up a bunch of pages with themed lists of reviews. I’ve got three more pages ready to fill in later tonight as well.
12:56am – Finished setting up the rest of the theme list pages, meaning that I’ve finished the Make Some Pages mini-challenge.
1:39am – Just finished popping around commenting on other people’s blogs. Must say that it’s been quite a long time since I did that … I really need to keep it up a bit more. It helps me feel connected with other bloggers, which, in turn, helps me feel more inclined to blog!
1:40am – Time for sleep. Seriously.
(basically … woke up, putzed around, flew to Luxor, got settled into the hotel … then …)
10:08pm – Discovered that, at some point between now and the last time I logged into LibraryThing (months ago, maybe almost a year), a whole whackload of my books went missing. Including my entire wishlist. Of easily over a thousand books.
12:10am – Internet was out for quite a while but seems to have come back. Finished cleaning up tags about an hour and a half earlier, but couldn’t save anything until now.
12:34am – Finished tidying up categories and categorizing posts that didn’t have any at all (mostly old challenge posts).
1:07am – Finished setting up draft posts for all books read up until this point.
1:11am – Alright, I think I’m giving up for this weekend. Given that I’m on vacation, I’m okay with not even coming close with finishing my list! Just starting and putting in some time counts for me. And I “met” a few new blogs out of the bargain as well that I’ll have to check out more closely once I’m home.
For all of you in time zones where you’ll still be going for a while longer … good luck! Happy blogging!
